Hi, I’m Jeffrey Swindle. I am a College Fellow & Lecturer in the Department of Sociology at Harvard University. You can reach me at: jswindle@g.harvard.edu
My research covers the global diffusion of ideas and the influence of ideas on people’s behavior. I focus on both liberal and illiberal ideas about violence, family, gender, and sexuality. My article, “Pathways of Global Cultural Diffusion: Mass Media and People's Moral Declarations about Men's Violence against Women,” received multiple paper awards and was published in American Sociological Review. Most recently, I coauthored a “data op-ed” in the Boston Globe about illiberal politics and international migration. My collaborative work appears in Social Forces, International Migration Review, Demography, and other journals. I teach courses on quantitative and qualitative research methods, gender & sexuality, and human rights. Previously, I completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Texas at Austin, a Doctorate in Sociology at the University of Michigan, and a Master’s in Development Studies at the University of Cambridge.
