Hi, I’m Jeffrey Swindle. I am a College Fellow & Lecturer in the Department of Sociology at Harvard University. Beginning in summer 2025, I will be an Assistant Professor of Criminology, Law & Society and Sociology (courtesy) at the University of California, Irvine. You can reach me at: jswindle@g.harvard.edu
My research covers the global diffusion of ideas and the influence of ideas on people’s behavior. I focus on both liberal and illiberal ideas about violence, migration, and gender. My article, “Pathways of Global Cultural Diffusion: Mass Media and People's Moral Declarations about Men's Violence against Women,” received multiple paper awards and was published in American Sociological Review. Most recently, I wrote in the Boston Globe and ReVista about illiberal politics and international migration. My collaborative work appears in Social Forces, International Migration Review, Demography, and other journals. I teach courses on quantitative and qualitative methods, global inequalities, and gender & sexuality.
